Grow Cherry Blossom Tree Right in Your Backyard

The cherry blossom tree is beautiful and vibrant, but they’re also finicky and hard to grow. The trees are known as sakura in Japan, where the blooms are symbols of renewal and hope. Cherry Blossom Growing Process

The seeds of cherry blossom will not be genetically identical to the parent plant, but you can try growing some and see what you get. Most of the seeds need cold stratification before planting. Determine when to plant the seeds by the timing of your local frost. Wrap the seeds in a damp cloth, place them in a ziplock bag, and put them in the refrigerator for about 10 weeks. This gives the seeds time to spread out before going dormant for the winter. During the early spring, plant the prepared seeds in full sun about 2 inches deep into the soil, then cover with a layer of mulch to retain moisture. Cherry blossom sapling will take several years to mature and bloom flowers.

Care

Plant your  trees in a location with full sun and well-drained soil. They will receive enough water from the natural environment, so only water the plants during extremely dry periods of the summer. Apply a general granular fertilizer to the trees once per year, in the spring. There’s no reason to prune your tree, but if you find it to be absolutely necessary, do so between in May and August, which is when the tree is actively growing.
